Mouth Blown Glass Lamp Shade Technical FAQs

50 pieces per design for standard silhouettes (globe/dome). For freeform artistic pieces, 1 piece possible but at premium pricing. Shared mold options available for startups (use our existing molds, lower MOQ 30pcs).

Three controls: (1) Spectrophotometer batch testing of raw glass, (2) Controlled atmosphere melting preventing oxidation shifts, (3) All pieces from same melt batch for large orders. Guaranteed ΔE<1.0 color difference.

Standard soda-lime opal glass rated to 150°C surface temp (60W incandescent/LED equivalent). For halogen/high-heat, we offer borosilicate mouth blown upgrade (+30% cost, 230°C rating).

Grinding removes material but leaves subsurface cracks. Our 1100°C fire polishing melts and resurfaces the rim, healing micro-defects. Result: 3× thermal shock resistance and IP44 sealing capability without gaskets.

7-10 days for turned wood molds (prototyping/small batch). 14-21 days for cast iron molds (high-volume durability). DFM analysis provided in 48 hours to optimize mold design before cutting.

Polariscope Stress Test: Each batch is subject to spot inspection, and there are no color difference stripes under polarized light (stress <20nm/cm)
Thermal Shock Testing: The sample did not burst after being cycled 10 times from -20°C to +130°C

8-Step Mouth Blown Glass Lamp Shade Manufacturing Process

The 48-hour annealing is our secret weapon. While others rush 12-hour cycles, we eliminate 99.9% residual stress. Result: your shades won’t crack in Dubai’s heat or Oslo’s freeze, years later.

Batch Preparation

SiO₂ 70%, Na₂O 13%, CaO 9%, Colorant ±0.001% accuracy

Melting

Platinum crucible, homogenized at 1550°C for 24 hours to remove bubbles

Gathering

In a 1200°C material pool, use an iron tube to pick up an appropriate amount of glass material (weight control ±5%)

Blowing

Manual blowing + mold rotation, with an air pressure of 0.1-0.3 MPa and a molding temperature of 1050°C
